Lent is a time of reflection on the ministry of Jesus Christ: how he re-humanized so many people, how he saw people as beloved children of God and provided the framework for radical grace and forgiveness, leading to the profound notion that through Jesus’ ministry, death, and ultimate resurrection – God has, is, and will make all things new. Lent provides a unique opportunity to examen ideas or beliefs that weigh me down or hold me back from seeing how God can do a new thing within me. During Lent, I can intentionally decide to fast from self-doubt or the belief that I am not enough. Our God is not static, but through the help and the work of the Holy Spirit, there are new opportunities in this season and beyond to do more than we could have imagined.
There is this rich history of saints who came before us and are doing the work that no one could have imagined; their creativity, their passion, and their imagination are reflective of this God who can make things new. There are also many of those people in our midst now. It brings hope when we look around and wonder what can be done when there is so much hurt and hardship. Still, the Spirit is at work, moving people to create ministries around the world to spread the good news and share Christ’s love, mercy, and compassion. Even more astounding at times is resting in the goodness of God. Rest, for many, is revolutionary.
The Lenten season reminds me to slow down and acknowledge that I am seen and known by God. As a woman in ministry, numerous conflicting expectations compete for my time and attention. When I think I need to do more or be someone or something else, this season allows me to pause and remember that God has called me as I am. That in itself can be sustaining and life-giving.

La Cuaresma es un tiempo de reflexión sobre el ministerio de Jesucristo, de cómo rehumanizó a tantas personas. Recordar cómo vio a las personas como hijos amados de Dios y proporcionó el marco para la gracia y el perdón radicales, lo que llevó a la noción profunda de que a través del ministerio, la muerte y la resurrección final de Jesús, Dios ha hecho, está haciendo y hará nuevas todas las cosas. La Cuaresma brinda una oportunidad única para examinar ideas o creencias que me pesan o me impiden ver cómo Dios puede hacer algo nuevo dentro de mí. Durante la Cuaresma, puedo ayunar de ideas que no me animan. Nuestro Dios no es estático, pero a través de la ayuda y la obra del Espíritu Santo, hay nuevas oportunidades en esta temporada y más allá para hacer más de lo que podríamos haber imaginado.
Existe esta rica historia de santos que nos precedieron y estaban haciendo obras que nadie podría haber imaginado; su creatividad, su pasión y su imaginación reflejan a este Dios que puede hacer cosas nuevas. También hay muchas de esas personas ahora entre nosotros. Trae esperanza cuando miramos a nuestro alrededor y nos preguntamos qué se puede hacer cuando hay tanto dolor y sufrimiento. Aun así, el Espíritu está obrando, motivando a las personas a crear ministerios en todo el mundo para difundir las buenas nuevas y compartir el amor, la misericordia y la compasión de Cristo. Aún más sorprendente a veces es descansar en la bondad de Dios; el descanso, para muchos, es revolucionario.
La temporada de Cuaresma me recuerda que debo ir más despacio y reconocer que Dios me ve y me conoce. Como mujer en el ministerio, numerosas expectativas en conflicto compiten por mi tiempo y atención. Cuando pienso que necesito hacer más o ser alguien o algo más, esta temporada me pide que haga una pausa y recuerde que Dios me ha llamado tal como soy. Eso en sí mismo puede sostenerme en el ministerio y ser vivificante.
