8 Scriptures to Start Your Best Year Yet

by Vanessa Gorski -

As we begin a new year, here are a few hand-picked scriptures I’ve collected with the DSF Family in mind:

1. Jeremiah 29:11 - New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

11 For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.

2. Lamentations 3:22-24 - New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,[a]

his mercies never come to an end;

23 they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.

24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,

“therefore I will hope in him.”

3. Isaiah 60:20 - New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

20 Your sun shall no more go down,

or your moon withdraw itself;

for the Lord will be your everlasting light,

and your days of mourning shall be ended.

4. Hebrews 4:16 - New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

16 Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

5. Romans 12:2 - New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

2 Do not be conformed to this world,[a] but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.

6. Isaiah 43:18-19 - New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

18 Do not remember the former things,

or consider the things of old.

19 I am about to do a new thing;

now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?

I will make a way in the wilderness

and rivers in the desert.

7. Psalm 96:1-3 - New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

1 O sing to the Lord a new song;

sing to the Lord, all the earth.

2 Sing to the Lord, bless his name;

tell of his salvation from day to day.

3 Declare his glory among the nations,

his marvelous works among all the peoples.

8. Ecclesiastes 3 - New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

2 a time to be born, and a time to die;

a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;

3 a time to kill, and a time to heal;

a time to break down, and a time to build up;

4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh;

a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5 a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;

a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6 a time to seek, and a time to lose;

a time to keep, and a time to throw away;

7 a time to tear, and a time to sew;

a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8 a time to love, and a time to hate;

a time for war, and a time for peace.
